When launched on June 7, 1958, The Edmund Fitzgerald was the largest ship traversing the Great Lakes, setting records for hauling iron ore mined in Minnesota and destined for Midwest steel mills. The fateful day, November 10, 1975, brought a huge storm to Lake Superior and overtook the Edmund Fitzgerald with her entire crew of 29 and remains, to this day, the largest ship to have sunk there.
